Det är lite otydligt just nu var branshen är på väg. Den naturliga tanken är att folk går tillbaka till Avid (vilket många gjort) eftersom det är en gammal branschstandard. Men ta inte det för självklart. Rykten om ekonomiska problem kring Avid har florerat länge. Premiere Pro CS6 är den absolut stabilaste och bästa versionen av PPro hittills (nog med säljsnacket). Adobe går inte alltid att hålla i handen på skarpa produktioner. CS4 var så dålig och så buggig att en det orsakade en irreparibel försening som gjorde att jag blev av med min största och bästa kund för några år sen. Men CS6 har jag väligt lite i kritisk väg att säga om. Det är i regel inga som helst problem att klippa långa projekt i PPro. Jag har klippt tre långfilmer i det och åtskilliga andra längre projekt. Innan du beslutar dig för var du ska ta vägen så släng även ett öga på LightWorks. lwks.com

Nej FCP finns inte mer och kommer snart inte funka på Apples nya system. Premiere Pro blir bättre och bättre under OSX och Premiere Pro är ett mycket bättre alternativ än gamla FCP. Det finns ju dom som halvskojar lite och kallar Premiere Pro för Final Cut Pro 8.

Program som (iallafall i teorin) uppfyller kravet på "Pro": Avid Media Composer, Premiere Pro, Vegas Pro och LightWorks. FCP 7 hade stark ledning över alla dom här programmen. FCPX är iMovie med några GPU-effekter som kostar pengar. Om det går att jämföra programmen med en mobiltelefon? Nej det tror jag inte. Men man kan nog göra liknelsen mellan mobiltelefoner så representerar redigeringsprogram för proffs ett syfte och då får du jämföra IOS med den militära versionen av Googles Android.

Det går utmärkt att bränna DVDer med meny ur iMovie Premium (heter FCPX i App Store).

Min gissning är att du inte klippte h.264 i Vegas för sex år sen... Klipp i ProRes så kommer det att tuta på.

Premiere Pro har. Avid har. Vegas Pro har. Edius har. Lightworks har. Cinelerra har. Magix Movie Edit Pro har (det enda program som utmanar FCPX om titeln sämst i klassen).

Men håll i huvudet att det är ett jäkla härke att exportera klippta grejer via FCPX XML till andra effektprogram. Och ljudprogram ska vi inte tala om. FCPX är i princip stängd för hela ProTools-världen (vilket per automatik borde få Apple att avlägsna "Pro" ur namnet men det är ju ett företag utan skam i kroppen som vi alla vet).

Om du är van användare av iMovie så tycker jag att du ska fortsätta använda FCPX (iMovie Premium). Skillnaderna är i grunden få. iMovie har t o m en del saker som FCPX saknar - men i grunden är det ju samma mjukvarukod. Det kan vara bra att inte lära om sina verktyg ibland. Bara man är införstådd med det faktum att proffsvärlden aldrig kommer att använda FCPX (om man nu tänker att man ska jobba som klippare eller liknande).

Jag kan inte komma på ett enda redigeringsprogram som gör anspråk på "Pro" som inte har en Waveformmonitor.

Hur många som gör en kopia av det man jobbar med just nu och arkiverar den på en separat enhet eller via mail/molndrive eller liknande? Alla klippare jag känner och någonsin har arbetat med. Vilken typ av backup är det du pratar om? En total backup av all media? Jag pratar om en isolerad Event-backup som inte tar någon plats.

Alla ni som funderar på att ta klivet över till FCPX är väl medvetna om att det inte går att göra en projektfilsbackup va? Man kan inte ta en projektfil och maila den till sig själv, lägga den i en dropbox eller på en USB-sticka och sedan, om oturen skulle vara framme och jag blir av med min arbetsdisk, återkspa mitt klippta arbete med hjälp av den filen och mina originalfiler från kameran? FCPX är helt byggt för att användas i interaktion med Time Machine. Använder man inte Time Machine så kan man inte jobba med versionsnumreringar av projekt (projekt heter Event i FCPX). Den här situationen är extremt ohållbar i minsta lilla "Pro"-sammanhang. Jag känner inte till en enda person eller ett enda företag som bygger sin backupsäkerhet på företagets arbetstationer och nätverk med hjälp av Time Machine. Time Machine må vara hur bra som helst för hemmapulare men i ett större samanhang fungerar det inte. Och utan Time Machine finns det inget sätt att arbeta med FCPX autosparfil. Det här är förmodligen den enskilt viktigaste orsaken till att branschen aldrig någonsin kommer att ta till sig X som den gjorde med klassiska FCP.

Om det är CS6 du jobbar med så är en klok idé att kolla upp vilka grafikkort CS6 har officiellt stöd för...och sen är resten upp till din plånbok.

Ha ha! Din väskas oförmåga att ta 17"-maskiner styr valet av redigeringsmaskin! Väldigt kul! "men menar ni att en data för 6000 inte klarar av att redigera?" Det beror ju helt på vad du ska redigera. Och vad du ska redigera borde vara det som avgör vilken maskin du måste köpa. :)

Stackarna! FCP7, Media 100, Avid och Premiere Pro kan till skillnad från FCPX hantera långa timelines med många klipp i redigeringmiljöer med flera projekt och användare. Men du har rätt i att klippkonst inte sitter i programmet. En svinduktig klippare kan klippa fantastiska saker i Windows Movie Maker. Det kommer inte att vara kul att klippa men det går.

Det finns väldigt bra dokumentation om Lightworks på deras sida. Och gott om information som understryker att gratisversionen av LW inte inkluderar några kommersiella codecs (som h.264).

Jag tror att jag börjar förstå ursprungsfrågan. Och jag tror att det handlar om den klassiska missuppfattningen att redigeringsprogram gör någonting begåvat med folks filmer. Och om man väljer ett program som en massa talangfulla Hollywood-människor använder så kommer man åt någonting av den där talangen genom att använda samma program. Vilket ju inte stämmer tyvärr. FCPX har inte alls fått tillbaka det mesta som saknas från det klassika FCP. Lååååångt ifrån. FCPX är en helt annan grej än FCP. FCPX är iMovie Premium. FCP hade aldrig "high-end"-fokus. FCP är ett basalt och fungerande klipprogram med nödvändigt stöd för alla typer av listor och format som behövs. FCP är ingen Smoke, XPRI eller Avid Symphony (tre exempel på high-endsystem). FCP hamnar i mellansegmentet av s k software NLE:s (tillsammans med program som Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer osv). FCPX hamnar under mellansegmentet i ett lite nytt segment för dom som nog med rätta kan kalla sig prosumers. Framför allt riktat till dom som skjuter film med stillbildskameror och sällan eller aldrig kommer i kontakt med tidkoder, broadcastsäkra mastrar och som mest klipper på laptop.

Lite oortodox fråga i det här forumet men jag letar med ljus och lykta efter en duktig programmerare som har fötterna i filmande också (med förståelse för olika video workflows och codecs). Väldigt många stora Hollywood-filmer är klippta i bara FCP (Bröderna Cohen, Stephen Soderberg, David Fincher osv). Hittills känner jag inte till någon som överväger att klippa långfilm i FCPX. Jag vet inte vilka som säger att FCPX ska "vara rätt ok nu" men om dom säger det så tycker jag att dom ska sluta röka crack och prata så mycket. ;) FCPX är fint och skoj och ser ballt ut ibland. Funkar bra för korta webbgrejer. Men ingenting annat.
