    Film Vs HD

there seems to be a love, hate relationship between film and HD in the film world. i want to use HD (not HDV) for a film project i am working on, but my DP wants to use film, which will take all the money i have for this project... he says that 35mm has a better quality than HD... what do you think is film better than HD?... for small productions where you are paying for everything you self why should you take all you money to use film... a lot of movies we see today are made with HD, can you tell the difference... i cannot... så HD eller film? 2. that was very old tutorial... and not a very good one too... the problem is that making good looking fire effects in not something you can get from a tutorial... it is an art from, and creating fire and it is not easy too... but tutorials can help you get there... go to http://www.3dtotal.com in the max section under lighting and rendering look up Afterburn Fireball... you will need the afterburn plugin... that is the best was to do fire effects in max....
  3. i like nemo, he knows a thing or two.... and i don't need to play tuff... there is no reason for that...
  4. well i would not say that maya is better at doing textures and lights than max. maybe it was but with the new versions of max. there are all about the same.... i cannot choose one and not the other. because i went and bought them both. i work with both max and maya and even C4D. but when i really ´want to get down and make my own menu, and run custom stuff, and make objects that animate them selves usuing expressions i have to use maya... max give you just as good quality rendering as maya because they both use Mental Ray. but in maya you could quickly write a custom shader that is not part of the program and render with it in minutes. this is not as simple in max. maya is more for the tech. Nerd like me and max is more for some one who want to get it done quickly and is not a control freak. like me. the real difference between them is under the program, the parts of the program that very few people ever go. so on the surface of things there are both equaly good. 5. because Maya is better , and you know that too... the things you could do in max you could do in maya but maya gives the user more control than you could ever get in max. most of the users of maya don't know this but you could go in and edit and change all the tools and make them work the way you want them to, you could change Maya completly if you wnated and could... but you cannot do that with max. when working with complex lighting setups and shaders i could just make a script or an expression that could create and entrie light setup with one click, and change everything in the shot with another click....you could use scripts in max but not as simple as in maya.. and expression in max are not even close to expressions in maya... i love MAX, i own max, but MAYA is my god... Maya 7 rules... as my friend say maya is not for kids.. if you want easy use someting else.... if you want to play with the gods maya is you key...
  6. there is a difference in between lightwave and MAX... things are layed out different.. menus, tools and other things... but the basics are the same... modeling, lighting rendering are all the same... if you know the basics of 3D then you could work in any program... if you want to buy one and want to get the best for your money and don't want to spent lots of money then lightwave it the only way to go.. you get a complete tool set for less than 11000kr. max costs about 60000kr and Maya and XSI well they costs a whole lot more.... not many people know this but lightwave has just as good tools as MAX, and the others... there are a few things that are better in Maya,XSI and even Max... but if you want to do some small commericals and short films.. lightwave works just fine... i mean they did some effects shots from SIN CITY in lightwave.... and there are tons of lightwave tut. files on the net... and even better ones than the millinos you find for MAX.... but in the end you have to choose the progran you like best...
  7. the truth is there is not that much difference between blue and greenscreen... use what you have... there are problems but there are the same for both. all you need is good lighting, planning and a really good compositing program, some skills and a few hours and you are good to go...
