  1. 58 universities from around the world are participating in the second edition of UNIFEST The 2nd International University Short Film Festival has achieved its objective of enhancing its international scope, on receiving 162 films from 19 different countries UNIFEST has become consolidated for the second year in a row as the pioneering festival in its category in Europe and the rest of the world UNIFEST’06 promises to be an overwhelming success. Following an initial edition where the expectations of participation were more than met, with close to one hundred short films submitted, the second was bound to attract even more. 162 short films submitted, from 19 different countries – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, England, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, Uruguay and Venezuela. In addition, a total of 58 universities are taking part through their students’ films, a figure well ahead of the 19 university centres that registered for the previous festival. The UNIFEST General Coordinator, Andrea Ansareo, was pleased to note that with this level of participation “the main objective of UNIFEST’06 has been achieved: a greater degree of internationalisation of the films submitted”. Of the total films submitted, 35 will compete in the Official Section in three categories: Animation, Fiction and Documentaries, with the possibility of winning the following prizes. The First UNIFEST Prize for Fiction, worth 1,000 euros and a scholarship for the International Cinema and Video Photography Direction Workshop, which will be held in Mexico during the coming month of September, awarded by the Film Producer, ro75 Training Center. The Second UNIFEST Prize for Fiction is 500 euros, the same amount that will be awarded to the winners in the Animation and Documentary categories. Other awards include the ‘Royal Seat and Town of Aranjuez’ Prize contributed by the Town Council of Aranjuez, in the amount of 600 euros, and the ‘Voice of the Public’ Prize consisting of a MiniDV SONY camera to be presented to the film chosen by the members of the public attending the screenings. Finally, AVID will present Avid Xpress Pro Software to the winner of the Best Domestic Short Film Prize. SONY, the Mexican Producer ro75 Training Center and the Town Council of Aranjuez are the sponsors of UNIFEST’06, together with Novores, the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and the University’s Foundation. Collaborators with the Festival include Bodegas Bal d’Isabena and the Mexican Embassy as well as Universia, Avid and Uno Seis. The Mexican producer ro75 Training Center complements the 1st Fiction prize of UNIFEST´06 The winner will attend the International Workshop of Photography in Movies and Video that will take place next September in Mexico UNIFEST' 06´s Direction encourages students to participate in the 2nd edition of the festival, in only a month for the closing of the reception A new bonus to participate in UNIFEST' 06. The Mexican producer ro75 Training Center adds itself to the group of sponsors that have already wagered firmly by the 2nd International University ShortFilm Festival offering a grant for the International Workshop of Movies Photography Direction and Video, given by the recognized film photographer Raúl Rodriguez Cabrera. The winner of the 1st Prize UNIFEST in category of Fiction will travel, with flight and lodging covered, to the City of Mexico D. F. of 11 to 19 of September this year, to attend this workshop. With more than twenty feature films and a hundred of documentaries so much in 35 as in 16mm, Raúl Rodriguez Cabrera will give for third year in a row this workshop, in which the audience will learn essential concepts in the photographic direction that, subsequently, they will materialize in exercises of digital video and 16 mm movies. This International Workshop of Movies Photography Direction and Video is just one of the numerous formative offers that ro75 Training Center puts at the disposal of those interested in the world of production, direction and audiovisual realization.   5. UNIFEST´06, the most important date for university students in the world, opens summons for reception of shortfilms 2nd UNIFEST's edition is already in action. Until the next May 10 the call remains opened for the reception of those shortfilms made by university students of the whole world. The rules, as well as the application form, can be downloaded on the festival web page http://www.unifestival.com This year's objective is to reach for a major internationalization in participation. For this reason in this edition works are accepted in English, making easier the whole international community flow. On the other hand, the Official Section in this edition is composed of three categories: Fiction, Animation and Documentary, so that prizes are established as follows: Fiction category (first and second prizes) valued at 1000 and 500 Euros in that order; and Animation and Documentary categories will be rewarded with 500 euros each one. There will be also two more prizes. The winner of the prize Aranjuez will receive 600 euros and the winner of the other prize titled “La voz del Pueblo” will obtain a Mini DV Camera thanks to audience election of the best shortfilm. As an expression platform for university students, Unifest will exhibit all shortfilms received in the Unimaraton Section. Unifest 06 will organize different courses and workshops that will take place during days in wich UNIFEST takes place, as well as discussions with some well-known film members and academic experts in order to improve shortfilm makers education. Organized by the Association UNIPROYECT, UNIFEST ' 06 will take place in Real Sitio y Villa de Aranjuez (Madrid) from 10 to 14 of next July.
